The Egyptian FETP's Journey to TEPHINET Accreditation

The Egyptian FETP has successfully achieved TEPHINET accreditation for the sixth cycle, solidifying its position as a leading field epidemiology training program in the region. This accomplishment underscores the program's commitment to providing high-quality training and contributing to public health initiatives. The rigorous accreditation process involved a comprehensive evaluation of the FETP's curriculum, faculty, resources, and program outcomes.

Achieving TEPHINET accreditation in 2022 marked a significant milestone for the Egyptian FETP, making it the second country in the region to receive this prestigious recognition. This achievement reflects the program's dedication to excellence and its ability to meet international standards for field epidemiology training. The accreditation not only validates the FETP's quality but also opens doors for collaboration and knowledge exchange with other TEPHINET-accredited programs worldwide.

Program Levels In recognition of the growing need for a broader spectrum of trained personnel, the FETP program expanded in 2017 with the introduction of the basic level, providing a strong foundation in epidemiology for early-career professionals. This expansion continued in 2021 with the launch of the intermediate level, bridging the gap between the basic and advanced levels and fostering a well-rounded public health workforce in Egypt.

  1. Advanced Level :
For the advanced level, up to the year 2023, 21 cohorts of total 174 epidemiologists have graduated. Now we are working with FETP cohort #22 (19 residents who are in their 1st year of training).
Residents who are selected for enrollment into FETP, follow the curriculum and receive a certificate of achievement upon satisfactory completion of the two-year training program.
  2. Intermediate Level :
The Intermediate level program was introduced in 2021 with collaboration with the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network’s (EMPHNET). Up to the year 2023, 2 cohorts of total 35 epidemiologists have graduated.
  3. Basic Level:
The basic program was initiated in 2017 in collaboration with EMPHNET as the Public Health Empowerment Program- Basic Field Epidemiology (PHEP-BFE) For the Basic level, four cohorts succeeded in graduating 6 cohorts with 147 sanitarians, and 26 doctors at National, Intermediate and local levels. We are now working with the 7th cohort of the basic level with a special track (One Health).
